The Green Team’s mission is to work in our school and community to raise awareness of environmental issues. We will reduce environmental harm caused by unsustainable development and non-holistic minded use of Earth’s resources in our school and community. We will accomplish this by encouraging sustainable practices and educating ourselves, community members, town leaders, and businesses on environmental issues.
The Rockport Middle and High School Green Team aims to help the environment in the school and the Rockport community. One way we are doing this is growing vegetables in the Rockport Schools' greenhouse and raised beds.
During the school year, we supply the cafeteria with fresh produce. Outside of the school year, these vegetables are sold at the Rockport Farmers' Market every Saturday from 9 to 1 in downtown Rockport. We 'grow local' to reduce the pollution created when food is shipped from long distances to our supermarkets. All food is grown, harvested, and sold by students at the schools using organic and sustainable methods.
The Green Team Paper Reduction Project is a mission to reduce paper usage in the Rockport Schools, one class at a time. We contact teachers and meet with them to discuss their lesson plans and find ways to reduce paper usage in their classes.
Our goal is to alter lesson plans to use less paper, while still being effective for the class. Currently being spearheaded by Sebastian Lovasco, the project is still in its "baby phase" but plans are being developed to work with more teachers throughout the school. We have seen how much paper the school uses, and intend to make changes on a scale that is both impactful and feasible.
The Rockport Green Team is actively involved in recycling awareness projects. Our goal is to inform the community about how and why to recycle. Part of this project is the facilitation of recycling in the Rockport Schools.

This ban will help to decrease our town's carbon footprint and reduce the amount of plastic pollution in the sea around Rockport, helping to preserve our marine ecosystem.
